Sunday was a busy day for over 100 firefighters who were on the scene at the Francis J. Clark Industrial Park in Bethel battling a blaze at a manufacturing building.

According to newstimes.com, the fire broke out early Sunday afternoon at 21 Francis J. Clarke Circle in a building that housed two companies -- one that makes tape adhesive, and another that makes non-toxic cleaning products.

Fire crews from Danbury, Brookfield, Weston, Newtown, Trumbull, Shelton, Roxbury, Redding and Monroe were also called to assist Bethel crews battle the fire.

Firefighters arrived and began to battle the blaze around 1:30 PM and by 6 PM, were still having a tough time getting the fire under control.

Fire officials estimate that at one point during the fire, over 3,000 gallons of water per minute were being pumped from hydrants and five portable ponds to try and extinguish the blaze.

Finally, by 8:30 PM, the fire was declared under control, but crews were expected to be on the scene well into the night to access the damage and to make sure there are no hot spots that could cause more issues.

Here's what Bethel First Selectman Matt Knickerbocker had to say about the situation, according to newstimes.com :

There’s still some smoke and some hot spots but they’ve gotten it beaten down pretty good. The building is going to be a total loss, there’s no question about that, and the cause of the fire will be investigated by the Bethel fire marshal with assistance from the state fire marshal.

Police did not report any injuries, though that could not be confirmed until officials could get into the building once the fire is out.
