With Easter set for next Sunday, April 5, moms and dads are out buying chocolate bunnies, jellybeans, peeps, and decorating eggs for the kid's Easter baskets. This begs the question ... what exactly are PEEPS?!

"Peeps" are a marshmallow candy that were made by the Rodda Candy Company. In 1953, the "Just Born" candy company bought out Rodda and came up with a machine that spit out these colorful little marshmellow morsels by the thousands.

They are now the largest producer of marshmallow candy in the world!

My wife, Mindy, is a self proclaimed super fan of peeps. Every year around this time, you will see her joyously pushing her shopping cart down the candy isle loading it up with boxes of yellow peeps.

Have you ever wondered about the nutritional value of these squeezable sugar balls? I didn't think so, but I'm going to tell you anyway.

Each Peep contains 140 calories and contains no fat, but it does contain 34 grams of sugar and 36 grams of carbs. But wait a minute, it is good for you because it contains 1 gram of protein, plus, you only eat them once a year.

So go ahead, stuff these mushy sugary suckers in your mouth one after the other! You eat 20 at a time, that's 20 grams of protein. Peeps are practically health food! Hold on a second, have you ever wondered what would happen if you popped a Peep in the microwave?
