Have you ever argued with one of your children, then stopped because you knew it was pointless?

I have. I almost always catch myself and say "Hey, self, this is a waste." Just by participating in an argument with a child, you have lost already. You definitely don't want to argue with a kid in front of anyone either, because if they hit you with a slow curve and end up actually having a decent argument, you look like a tool.

That is pretty much how Joakim Noah looked the other night when he ended up in a back and forth with a little kid.

I can see the temptation on Noah's part here. You're a pro athlete who gets heckled in every city you visit. Part of your job is to ignore it, but then a young voice cuts through the white noise like a hot knife through butter. The kid is actually critiquing your shooting motion. That is your livelihood, and you should know how to shoot a basketball correctly. Then you have the realization that the young man is right. You may be more than tempted to argue. You must, however, ignore that temptation or you look like a complete and total ass clown.
