PT Barnum, one of the most creative men of his time was the founder of the Greatest Show on Earth, Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus. Barnum was born in Bethel in 1810 and was a showman and a museum proprietor. His brand of entertainment leaned more towards the unusual. You could say PT thought outside the box. Glenn Miller

Glenn Miller, trombonist and famed bandleader was born in a small southwest Iowa town. Miller played trombone during high school and during his adult lie played with many big bands until he formed his own, the world renowned The Glenn Miller Orchestra, best known for the big-band tune, "In the Mood." Miller died in Europe in 1944 when the small plane he was piloting disappeared and was never seen or heard from again. He was only 40-years-old. A monument honoring Glenn Miller stands in the Grove Street Cemetery in New Haven.
