You just knew there was going to be debate over this.

Farm animals in your back yard. How far should someone go? Chickens, pigs, goats, or how about even a camel? Oh yeah, you heard me correctly, a camel named Sheik now lives in Ridgefield.

Question is, does everybody really love the idea? In a follow up story from theridgefieldpress.com, it seems that not all of the neighbors are on board. According to the newest story, there is a bit of concern around town about everything from the animal's effect on property values to exotic viruses. And regardless of the fact that it appears that Sheik's owners are not violating any existing town ordinance or zoning regulation, there is talk of circulating a petition. First Selectman Rudy Marconi told the Ridgefield Press:

No one has called my office saying, ‘What a great addition to the town! Although there are people who don’t mind it, when asked if they would approve it next door to them, the response was no

Ridgefield resident Jim Reedy, who lives not far from where the camel is kept, had this to say to the Ridgefield Press:

We’ve got a residential area here. The place where they have their farm, or whatever you want to call it, it’s very visible to the street. A camel is not necessarily a native animal in town. I’m concerned about property values.

Reedy's wife Judith is looking into organizing a petition against the camel.

Depending on what Sheik the camel is used for, pet, attraction, or part of a business, you know the debate and concerns will continue. What do you think about the situation?
