I did not even know -114 degrees was possible, but that is the temperature that was recorded at Whiteface Mountain over the weekend.

According to The New York Daily News, the windchill factor at Whiteface Mountain in upstate NY hit an all time low of -114. A bunch of factors were responsible. First off, the temperature was recorded at an elevation of 4,865 feet. Second, winds reached 45 miles per hour. Third, it was simply butt cold everywhere. I wonder, at what point in those elements do you experience hypothermia? Is it in a matter of seconds? Exposed skin would probably freeze right away and fall off.

All I know is, this better be the beginning of the end. This winter was one of the most mild I have ever experienced in my life, but does not seem to want to go quietly into the night. It's as if Mother Nature knows we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and she wants to serve us with a gentle reminder that she is still there.

I stopped to put gas in my truck on Saturday, and stood outside with no gloves on, and my body broke into a series of uncontrollable movements that were simply out of my hands. These were muscle spasms all over my body, accompanied by unintentional noises just firing out. When the weather is this cold, and you are out in it, you need an exorcism almost as much as you need a jacket.
