Mindy and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary on May 30, 2016. We had a hippy wedding outdoors in a park complete with blue leisure suit and love beads.

We got hitched at the Rotary Sunshine Camp where Mindy was employed as the camp nurse every summer. I met her for the first time at the camp when our acoustic trio, Sunup played for the campers and staff. She ended up being a Sunup groupie.

We couldn't find a Rabbi who would marry us because I hadn't converted yet, so we actually hired a Presbyterian minister who agreed to wear a suit instead of his robes. We also asked him to refrain from thanking Jesus, because Mindy's grandmother, Claire, would have had a heart attack. Now that I'm thinking about it, I don't think I even paid the minister!

The reception was an incredibly classy affair. Our mutual friend, Eugene, said he'd be thrilled to snap some photos for us, but, unfortunately, got hammered the night before and never made it to the wedding. We set up a small tent in my mom's back yard, hooked up the reel to reel tape deck, and we were rockin' out to some tasty Simon & Garfunkel.

Our reception's main course were buckets of fried chicken from Bill Wahl's complete with cole slaw, fries, and potato salad all washed down by cases of Shasta soda, although my mom managed to sneak in some cheap bourbon.

Yes, my mom (God rest her soul), downed a couple of boiler makers as soon as we got back to the house. When she started swinging the baseball bat like Micky Mantle, we had to shut her down. I mean, c'mon, there were some little kids at the reception.

40 years later, here we are. Still madly in love, and still best friends! I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
