Does one bad apple really spoil the whole bunch? It seems this old wives' tale has happened this week in Waterbury. According to a post by nbcconnecticut.com, the principal of Kingsbury Elementary School, Eric Brown, was told to stay home after being scrutinized when a teacher's union complained about what Brown had posted on his Facebook page.

Nbcconnecticut.com reports that Brown shared posts on Facebook involving an elderly woman smoking herb and swearing, another saying it was national slap your irritating co-worker day, and a third brutal post featuring an animated character doing something "sexual in nature where children are involved." YIKES!

This set off a domino effect of scrutiny onto other Waterbury principals. Two more have been caught up in this investigation. Wendell Cross Elementary Principal, Joe Amato, and Generali Elementary Principal, Kathy Stamp, both were taken to task for posting inappropriate messages.

In Waterbury's defense, they have a code of conduct for educators in place regarding social media, and have a drug-free workplace policy. But, it still begs the question of free speech and freedom of expression. How can what we believe personally impact our chosen careers? I expect to see way more of this happening as the ripple effect stretches across Connecticut. If you're an educator in the Nutmeg State, my advice to you is this: Scrub the weed photos off of your timeline, and replace them with photos of food, or your pets and kids.

And it's a good thing that Townsquare Media isn't scrutinizing what we're posting to our own Facebook pages Lou Milano...Shame on you.
