Fun Day Trip Ideas: Ellsworth Hill Orchard & Berry Farm
On Monday, we took the kids up to Kent Falls for a fun hike. After, we decided to explore the area a little more and came across this farm where we could pick raspberries.
The Ellsworth Hill Orchard & Berry Farm is a pretty impressive place. They do a lot of pick-your-own, which is what drew our attention here in the first place. We thought the kids would have fun picking berries, and they did have a great time!
My husband showed them which berries to pick, and they loved filling the containers. Plus, the raspberries taste really good. We were going to make something (a pie or muffins) with them, but we've been snacking on them since we got home, so I'm not sure that's happening.
Along with the raspberries, there were blackberries that we could pick and put in the same containers as the raspberries. These taste good too! We're pretty happy with the berries that were available for picking and there were quite a few rows of bushes.
Not only do they have raspberries, but they have blueberries that are available for pick-your-own right now. The apple orchard will start picking at the end of August. On the weekend, you can check out their retail store across the street, and they have a vintage train display in the store too (Lionel model).
Here are some of the things available in the store:
- Fresh Pies
- Apple Cider Donuts (we bought some of these too and they are very good)
- Fresh Sweet Cider
- Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffins
- Homemade Peanut Butter
- Maple Syrup
During the week, they bring things from the store over to a trailer that is set up by the pick-your-own. So, you pay at the trailer for the berry containers, and you can also purchase the items listed as available in the store at the trailer on weekends.
In addition to the fun picking and all the good food, the views are absolutely beautiful. I could have stayed there all day just looking at the view.
The farm is located in Sharon, CT. They are open Sunday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
