Santa Con is coming to town and the MTA or Metropolitan Transportation Authority is having none of it.

According to the News Times the MTA says no alcohol consumption will be allowed on the Long Island Railroad or Metro North from Friday night at 11pm thru noon on Sunday.  They are doing this because the annual SantaCon pub crawl happens all weekend in New York City and past years have been riddled with drunken incident after drunken incident.

I have never been to SantaCon.  It always sounded kind of fun but I may be getting too old for the pub crawl thing. OK, I am to old.  But I still hate when they ban alcohol part time on the LIRR and Metro North lines.  It's one of the last forms of transportation in this country where you can whack down a 6 pack or pound a pint of vodka and what is more American than that?  What I ask you?  WHAT!?

Years ago in this country a man could get wasted drunk and rip cigarettes on an airplane, in a movie theater and even at work.  I think the work thing is true.  Either it is true or the AMC television show "Mad Men" is wildly inaccurate.  So yeah I like being able to drink on the train.  I always have.

The other side of me however is thinking about the mom's and dad's who will be bringing their kids down this weekend to see the tree in Rockefeller Center and having to shield them from drunk's dressed like Santa is both annoying and can be traumatic for the kids.

So, let's just color me torn here man.
