The City of Danbury issued a press release on Friday (04/05/24) that reads:

"On Wednesday, April 24, the City of Danbury First Responders are going head to head in the 3 rd Annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive & Emergency Preparedness Day at the Danbury Fair Mall. The Danbury Police and Fire Departments, the Office of Emergency Management, and Health and Human Services will work to recruit donors and see which team can save the most lives by donating blood.

Last year, the Danbury Battle of the Badges Blood Drive proudly collected over 100 donations of lifesaving blood. The City of Danbury Health and Human Services Department together with Emergency Management remain undefeated recruiting the most donors. Battle of the Badges is more than a competition; it’s a crucial lifeline supporting the Red Cross in fulfilling the ongoing need for blood in hospitals and for patients. Participation is essential to ensure a stable blood supply is always ready. The Red Cross urgently needs donors from all blood groups, particularly those with type O blood, to help maintain a robust blood supply for vital patient care this spring."

The event has the full support of Danbury Mayor Roberto Alves who said:

"Our First Responders are out there every day keeping our city safe, and this initiative is an extension of their mission to help save lives. Last year’s Battle of the Badges was a great success, with over 100 donations of lifesaving blood, and I know the Police and Fire Departments, the Office of Emergency Management, and Health and Human Services are working hard. I encourage our community to come out and support our First Responders, and our Health and Human Services department, and help save lives."

4 Connecticut Based Department Stores That Are No More

I certainly remember shopping at three of the stores on this list and it transports me back to my youth and that makes it a find memory. These 4 stores were not only wildly popular in their day but they had their national headquarters right here in the Nutmeg State.
