Everything costs way more than it should and in Connecticut you'd better clutch your wallet or purse even tighter.

Before we tell you where to avoid we might as well start with something positive. When it comes to savings, my wife and I swear by ALDI, it really is the best. At the height of the $8 egg craze I was getting eggs at ALDI for $2.89 and that is not a joke. I watched a pallet of eggs evaporate in the 40 minutes I was at the Danbury location.

That is the only recommendation I'm willing to share for grocery savings but that is not why you're here, you want to know what to avoid. My research tells me Connecticut has 10 of these chain grocery stores that are considered among the most expensive in the country, they are in:

Avon
Danbury
Darien
Fairfield
Glastonbury
Greenwich
Milford
Two in West Hartford
Westport

Congratulations to Whole Foods! You're the winner, or loser depending on how you see it. According to Delish, Whole Foods is considered to be one of America's most expensive grocery store chains. They even joke in the article that some refer to Whole Foods as "Whole Paycheck." Delish goes on to point out certain scandals the company has faced over the years like "selling a bottle of water with three stalks of asparagus for $6" and "their former CEO blaming America’s obesity crisis on making poor choices and ignorance."

I went inside the Hat City Whole Foods once and ran right back out when I saw the prices. I also saw a grown man with a leather satchel drinking what appeared to be a cup of mud, it was just not for me but congratulations to those of you who can light money on fire.
