The figures are in and the news is not good. The National Low Income Housing Coalition has released its latest housing report.

They've crunched the numbers to find out how much per hour you need to earn to be able to afford a moderate two bedroom apartment in each of the United States.

The figures are discouraging. The report found that if you're only making minimum wage, you cannot afford to spend only 30% of income on such an apartment in the U.S.

In Connecticut, to afford a modest two bedroom apartment, your hourly wage needs to be $24.29! The report is titled, "Out Of Reach" which explains the situation for many Americans.

To be able to comfortably pay all of your bills, you shouldn't be spending more than 30% of your income on rent or a mortgage payment.

Here's what "Out Of Reach" found:

The average hourly wage in the U.S needed to afford a moderate two bedroom apartment that goes for $1,006/month is $19.45/hour or $40,240/year.

On the low end of the scale, Arkansas workers only had to make $12.95/hour to afford that apartment. At the top end was Hawaii where you need to earn $31.61/hour.

So what's the solution? Is it simply to apply yourself while you're in high school and/or college and work hard at your chosen career so you're able to provide for yourself and eventually a family? Could it be that CEO's are making far to much money and they can't afford to pay their employees a living wage? Should you do what everyone else seems to be doing and just blame it on President Obama? If you were the President of the United States, what would you do to help remedy the affordable housing situation?
