All you have to do is write an essay and pay an $85 entry fee, and you might "win" a home in Bristol, Connecticut. This is no scam, it's real! The story comes from Fox News, CT. Ken and Heather Kimball bought their 3 bedroom home 10 years ago, but right after their purchase, the market took a nose dive. They are now underwater on their mortgage and need a larger living space for their family.

The Bristol couple is "selling" their home to a couple or individual who can explain in 200 words why they should win this "Home Essay Contest." Each essay needs to be accompanied by an $85 entry fee which is how the Kimballs' are raising money. The essay contest also includes a $5,000 prize for the winner. The entries will be reviewed by the Kimballs and then narrowed down to 20 entries. Two Bristol business owners will review the 20 essays and choose the top 3 finalists. The contest will continue until Feb. 28, 2016.

Heather Kimball told the Hartford Courant, "We need to have enough entries." The fee money needs to cover the cost of their existing mortgage. If that's not the case, the contest will be cancelled and the entry fee money, which is being held in escrow, will be returned to the participants.

The Kimballs are looking for essays that are heartfelt and sincere. The house is a two story colonial with 3 bedrooms and a large master bedroom with a front porch and back deck. The Kimballs told the Hartford Courant that their cozy home is in a quiet neighborhood where kids ride their bikes and play out in the yard. If you're interested, go to essaycontestforhome.com.
