Are you a slob? Does your bedroom, laundry room, bathroom, or your desk at work look like a tornado came through? Do you hate yourself because you can't get organized? Of course you do! There's no need to be a self hater, because Business Insider tells us that scientists have conducted research that tells us that being messy has its advantages!

Recent research from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands tells us that disordered environments prompt people to be more goal oriented. This means you don't need to have Obsessive Compulsive Disorderto be successful! The research findings say that our brains are hard wired to seek order in our lives whenever possible, but when we're faced with physical chaos, we're inspired to create well defined goals.

90 participants were asked to imagine they were a part of a rewards program at a department store. One group was shown a photo of a disorganized store environment in the store's website background. Another group saw an ordered background, and then the last group was shown a neutral background. The group that saw the messy store environment were more inclined to follow through on the store's reward program. Having your work desk in a state of chaos might just set a fire under your ass to finish that project before the guy in the next cube over who's desk is perfect and drives a BMW. Being a disorganized mess could also make you feel like you suck at life and your a loser, who can't do anything right. If you ask me, I think it's a control issue. Now go wipe up your coffee stained desk, you slob!
