Is Halloween age appropriate for young children? The experts say you need to know when your little ones are able to distinguish "fantasy vs reality."
From the website care2.com comes an example about an enthusiastic 3 year old who couldn't wait to wear his Halloween costume, which he did all day at pre-school, and then helped fill up the candy bowls for trick or treaters. When that doorbell rang for the first time, he ran and opened the door and saw a teenager dressed as a zombie with an axe sticking out of the side of his head! This 3 year old with unbounded Halloween enthusiasm took one look, started to cry, and ran upstairs to a back room and refused to come out for the rest of the night.

Child psychologists recommend shielding your toddlers from the "scary" traditions of Halloween until they can make that distinction between fantasy and reality.
