I loved reading when I was a kid. I was a regular at the library, and even more of a regular in Waldenbooks. I was fortunate to have attentive parents that encouraged me to keep learning, and reading. Many are not as fortunate. The United Way of Western Connecticut is asking for your help as they try to help second and third grade children in Danbury and New Milford keep reading through their Summer 2016 break.

We received a press release from United Way at the station this week, and in it, the United Way basically equates the Summer break for young children to what it really is, a vacation! But, the bad thing about being away from books for a three month period is being away from continued learning for 90 days. So, they want to do something about that for area children.

On Saturday, June 2, 2016, The United Way will be at the Danbury PAL at 35 Hayestown Road from 9:30AM to 11:30AM. Their goal is to collect 500 books for second and third graders for Danbury and New Milford schools. If you don't have an extra copy of Curious George laying around, you could also order a book online through the United Way's Amazon Wish List, which I will include a link to below.
