Southbury will have one less grocery store after this weekend

LaBonne's Markets have been serving our area for more than 50 years, with locations in Watertown, Woodbury, Salisbury, and Southbury. The Southbury location opened up a few years ago at 150 Main Street South. in a location previously occupied by the Southbury Food Center.

I remember going to that store with my grandmother.

Stop and Shop and Shop Rite are located within a mile of here, and it looks like they've diluted the marketplace enough that LaBonne's has decided to close up shop in Southbury.

Store closing signs went up in the past couple of weeks, and normal store operations ceased last week for good. Liquidation of remaining stock is in progress, and the aisles are very empty, with only a few items remaining in the slowly drying up facility.

The official last day has been announced, it's this Saturday October 17, 2015.

The chain's other three locations remain open, and I'll be stopping by the Watertown store on the way home to pick up some of their excellent produce. I hope my little contribution will keep this local merchant going!
