There's nothing quite like a damn good milkshake, burger and fries. It's the All-American meal. A perfect combination of mostly cow products, and potatoes. I've eaten thousands of them over the years. There are a few places that do it well in Western Connecticut: G's Burgers in Watertown and Naugatuck, Wayback Burgers in Danbury and Waterbury, and Burgerittoville in Newtown all come to mind.

Add Shake Shack to the list if you're a fan. I recently stopped into their Westport location at 1849 Post Road East. There is also a Shake Shack at 986 Chapel Street in New Haven. Shake Shack started up in New York City, I remember seeing them in Grand Central, but I never stopped and tried it. I missed out on really good food. The Westport location is beautiful, all of the wood is reclaimed, and stamped with the location in Connecticut from which they came. The parking lot is insanely hectic, huge luxury SUV's filled with kids on their iPads, chasing down a precious parking spot.

My hands were already shakin' in anticipation by the time this contraption went off. I ordered a 'Shroom Burger, which is a burger topped with a Portobello, which is stuffed with Muenster and Cheddar cheeses, fries, and a Coffee Fair Shake. They were all excellent. The Portobello burger alone was worth the price of admission, but the shake made this a destination in my eyes. Another very thoughtful move from Shake Shack? They make food for dogs! Dog biscuits and a concoction they call Pooch-ini are on the menu. Pooch-ini consists of dog biscuits, peanut butter sauce, and vanilla custard.

You can't go wrong with G's Burgers, Burgerittoville, or Shake Shack. Those are my top 3 picks for great burgers, salty fries, and creamy milkshakes in Western Connecticut.
