Bristol-Myers Squibb Is Yet Another Major Business Leaving Connecticut

Another one bites the dust -- Connecticut is losing another major company.

More change, and I for one can't think it's any kind of good for the state. Certainly not good for the people that are employed at the Bristol Meyers - Squibb location in Connecticut.

According to a press release from Bristol Myers-Squibb they are closing their location in Wallingford  and will completely leave Connecticut by the end of 2018.

In a story from nbcconnecticut.com, the company announced in 2015 that it was moving its research and development from Connecticut, but said at the time that it had planned to keep 500 office jobs. Bristol Meyers - Squibb ended any hope of that on Dec. 13 when the press release came out. It's not clear at this point how many jobs will be lost by the closure.

In the press release, CEO Giovanni Caforio, M.D. had this to say:

Today’s announcement underscores our commitment to make the right investments to continue to deliver on the promise of our pipeline and to bring transformational medicines to patients, today and in the future

Good for them, just sucks for us.
