Two Danbury High School Coaches Nationally Honored
Two legendary Danbury High School coaches will get some well deserved recognition this year. They are both National High School Coaches Association finalists.
Both Jackie DiNardo, who is the head coach of the Danbury Hatters' girls' basketball team, and Kathy Boucher, who coaches the DHS girls' golf team, are one of eight coaches in their respective sports who will be in the running for the NHSCA award.
According to patch.com, Jackie DiNardo, who has been the Hatters girl's basketball coach for more then 30 years, has recorded 460 career wins and has led the team to dozens of FCIAC and state tournaments. The Lady Hatters won the FCIAC Tournament in 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-14, becoming one of only three varsity teams in the state to ever three-peat.
In 2015, DiNardo was inducted into the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference Hall of Fame. She also played basketball at the University of Texas where she was recognized as an All-American. During her college career, Jackie played for the U.S. on the Pan Am Team for the late Pat Summitt and won three gold medals and one silver. DiNardo was also inducted into the Connecticut Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012.
Kathy Boucher, who teaches social studies at DHS, started the girls' golf team as a club sport in 1998. It became a varsity sport in 2003, and the team won back to back FCIAC and state championships in 2004 and 2005. In 2016, the team was state runner-up.
During her stint as head coach, Boucher has led the team to an overall win/loss record of 125-96 with four ties. Boucher was named the FCIAC Girls Golf Coach of the Year in 2015 and received an FCIAC Coach of Excellence Award in 2016.
