Police: Impaired Driver on I-84 Found With Drugs, Weapon
Three men were arrested after police found an alleged impaired driver on I-84. On Tuesday around 9:40PM, New York State Police stopped a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck on Interstate 84 in the town of Southeast for several alleged driving violations.
While interviewing the driver, 45-year-old Fred Agyeman of Kentucky, police allege they smelled marijuana coming from inside the car and found marijuana plants.
Agyeman was also driving under the influence of drugs, police say.
A further investigation discovered a loaded 9MM Walther handgun, 2 marijuana plants, concentrated cannabis cartridges and multiple controlled opiate pills, according to State Police.
Agyeman was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon with a prior conviction, criminal possession of a controlled substance, all felonies, and criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful cannabis growth and driving while ability impaired by drugs, misdemeanors.
Two passengers, 69-year-old Joseph Sam of Rhode Island and 46-year-old Charles E Carter III of Kentucky, were both arrested for criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a firearm, all felonies.
Agyeman and Carter were remanded to the Putnam County Jail without bail. Sam was remanded to the Putnam County jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.
