The Newtown Police Department has issued an urgent crime alert. Police Chief James Viadero posted a message on NPD's Facebook page urging residents to keep vehicles locked.

Police report that this is a statewide issue that has been plaguing Connecticut for quite a while. Just last week, a resident on Taunton Lane in Newtown saw someone going through cars which were unlocked and parked in the driveway of the home. The would-be car thieves fled when the owner approached them.

If you have any information about the stolen propery, please call the Newtown Police Department.

Police urge you: Don't be a target! Lock your vehicle, even if it is on your property. Lights and motion lights are a big deterrent and inexpensive.
