Homeland Security notified local police that a Hudson Valley man was allegedly in possession of child porn.

In August 2018, investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) Bureau of Criminal Investigation were notified by members of the United States Department of Homeland Security that they had been monitoring an IP address for the possession of child exploitation videos.

In conjunction with Homeland Security, PCSO investigators conducted an investigation into 45-year-old Jason J. Dance of Carmel.

In October 2018, investigators obtained and executed a search warrant at Dance's home seizing over 75 electronic devices.

Over the next several months, members of the PCSO conducted a thorough analysis of the electronic devices that were seized and identified the computer and user responsible for possessing the child exploitation video files, police say.

As a result of this investigation, Dance was charged with three counts of possession of an obscene sexual performance by a child, felonies. Dance was arraigned in Town of Carmel Court and released on his own recognizance pending a future court appearance.
