American Bald Eagle Rescued by Waterbury Animal Control

Connecticut State Police got the call. A bald eagle was down and in trouble.

Police discovered that the eagle had been hit by a motor vehicle in the area of Rt. 8 Southbound in the area of Rt. 25 and was on the right shoulder. Police summoned Waterbury Animal Control and it was determined that the bird was suffering from a broken wing.

The majestic American Eagle was banged up and became frightened when two Waterbury Animal Control officers approached. The injured bird tried to make an escape by running down an embankment towards the Naugatuck River.

Fortunately, the officers were able to catch the injured bird which was handed over to state environmental conservation officers and transported to the Sharon Audubon Society where it's been listed in stable condition. A state trooper and a Beacon police officer parked their cars around the eagle to protect it.
