48 License Plates Banned by New York State DMV
With the ability to customize your license plate, there is inevitably going to be some wiseguy trying to sneak a bad word or two through. Here's a look at some of the more outrageous license plates banned by the New York state DMV.
Using the Freedom of Information Act, a full list of license plates was released to an organization called Government Attic, who then turned around and shared the info with the public. According to a press release from Government Attic, the commissioner determines which license plates will and won't make the cut: "it is, in the discretion of the commissioner, obscene, lewd, lascivious, derogatory to a particular ethnic or other group, or patently offensive."
So while our life long goal of obtaining a license plate with the vanity plate "Beer" will never be realized, I'm sure you can think of something that isn't even on the list yet.
