I know it's unlikely that you are getting on a plane to Florida to donate blood in light of the weekends tragic events in Orlando. That said, it points to the fact that the need for blood is always high.

So, near and dear to my heart. Please, please give blood.

Aside from the massive need when any tragedy strikes, according to the Red Cross, every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs a lifesaving blood transfusion. When my mom was very ill, blood transfusions became a pretty common thing in her life.

The Red Cross has to collect about 14,000 blood donations daily to meet the needs of patients at 2,600 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country. Donors of all blood types are currently needed. Go to redcrossblood.org for more info on World Donor Day, as well as donating anytime.
