We were the first ones to break the news that Bruce Bennett, the owner of Bruce Bennett Nisan in Wilton, is leading the way to attempt to bring a new professional hockey team to Danbury.

Listen to our conversation with Bennett here.

According to the News-Times, Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton said that the Whalers still owe a big chunk of change to the city.

Boughton said, "They did make some payments toward it, and they did keep current this year, but they still owe the back charges."

Boughton went on to say that he's got a good feeling about pro hockey returning to Danbury. Although he can't say who it is, Boughton has met with one ownership group.

We also told you that the managing partner of the Danbury Whalers, Herm Sorcher, has taken the managerial position for a new Federal Hockey League team that will play at the Brewster Ice Rink next season. That team has been named, "State Line Whalers."

FHL Commissioner, Dan Kirnan said that two different ownership groups have contacted the league about starting up a new team in Danbury. When asked if two FHL teams can exist so close together, he said that was for the league to investigate and eventually make a ruling on.
