Someone please enlighten me. Am I so politically naive that I'm blinded by the reasons former Bridgeport mayor Joe Ganim, who is a convicted felon, is the mayoral front runner in Bridgeport?

I admit I don't know Mr. Ganim personally, in fact, I've never met the man. As far as I know he's a swell guy, but electing a man who's spent seven years in federal prison for his conviction on 16 federal counts —which included corruption, racketeering, extortion, conspiracy, bribery, mail fraud, and filing false tax returns, when he was Bridgeport's mayor from November of 1991 to April of 2003— just feels so wrong to me.

Yes, Mr. Ganim did good things for the city of Bridgeport like bringing it back from the brink of bankruptcy, along with building a new ball park and arena. In all the interviews I've watched, Ganim has admitted that he made mistakes in the past, but told WTNH News that Bridgeport is "a second chance city."

Take a look at this WTNH news clip.

Whether Mr. Ganim gets elected as the new mayor of Bridgeport doesn't affect me in any capacity living in New Fairfield, but if you lived in Bridgeport, would you feel comfortable having a convicted felon back in that office?

Who's to say he wouldn't secretly return to his old ways.

In the seven years he spent in prison, maybe he's learned what it takes to be a much better con artist? You never know! I'm not judging here. All I'm doing is speculating while stating the facts. Are you, or would you vote for Joe Ganim for Mayor of Bridgeport and why?
