My son Louis asked me a really interesting sports question yesterday. In fact, I have not been able to stop thinking about it. He asked me, "Who is more popular, Odell Beckham Jr. or Aaron Judge?"

This little guy here asked the question. It is a great question and the sad truth is in the answer. The answer is OBJ, for now. After he asked the question. I answered that way and went into great detail about why that is and why it should not be.

I told him because of the antics, his hair, his celebrations and his behavior off the field he gets headlines. He is a pop star who happens to play football. I told him that Aaron Judge has accomplished amazing things as a rookie, things no one has ever done before but he was not as popular as OBJ.

Judge is not as popular because he has not made himself a cartoon character. I explained that MANY people put a premium on the wrong personality traits in our society and especially in sports.

I explained to my son that for all of his talent Odell does himself and his team no favors with his behavior. He is a distraction to his team and he makes his coaches and owner waste hours of their day explaining his childish behavior. Aaron Judge simply goes about his business.

I finished the conversation with Little Louis by explaining that these types of things have a way of working themselves out over a long enough timeline. Aaron Judge will likely continue to be a model citizen and productive player. Odell Beckham Jr. will continue to be a distraction. When all is said and done Judge will be a beloved figure by NY Sports fans and OBJ will be a punchline.

I also reminded him that Judge and the Yankees are in the playoffs and OBJ is on an 0-5 team and is sidelined with a broken ankle.
