Lights, camera, rock and roll!

Over the years there have been some amazing movies made about famous rockers. The most memorable ones that come to mind are "The Buddy Holly Story' from 1978 starring Gary Busey and 1991's "The Doors" starring Val Kilmer. There have been other good ones made, others not-so-good. Most recently movies on Mötley Crüe, Freddie Mercury, Janis Joplin and Keith Moon have been either talked about or are still planned for release. Hopefully all of those come to fruition.

Here's my question to you - Is there a movie about a band or artist you'd love to see that has either never been made or was made but fell short of expectations?

Anyone who knows me won't be surprised to hear my pick and that is the mighty Van Halen. How amazing would this movie be? I mean, really, this is not only one of the greatest and most influential bands in rock history but, man, the drama! You've got the band's rise to stardom filled with stories of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll excess, then the highly publicized departure of David Lee Roth, then the Sammy Hagar years, plus the Gary Cherone debacle, the failed reunions. Wow, talk about a blockbuster film!

The easy part is picking the band. The hard part is choosing who I'd want to play the two biggest characters in the movie - David Lee Roth and Edward Van Halen. I thought about this a lot and finally came up with the perfect choice for the role of Roth - Matthew McConaughey. He's a great actor who can play both the cool Roth and the crazy Roth with equal strength.

Now we come to Edward Van Halen. This is a tough one. I thought about maybe Bradley Cooper or even Zac Efron but those just don't feel right. Ultimately I came down to either James Franco or Jared Leto and, in the end, I decided on Leto just barely and that's only because Leto is a musician himself. He'll get all the little nuances and characteristics of Van Halen the musician and, based on seeing his amazing performances in the past, Van Halen the person.

So I've made my choice. What's yours? Let us know in the comments section below or just head to i95's Facebook page to tell us your choice.
