Everyday, I think about joining an area gym to tone and exercise my pudgy body, and everyday I manage to put it off.

I figured I'd move my gym search to Step #2 and begin researching which area gyms would work for me factoring in cost, the amount of available treadmills and ellipticals, and how many muscle heads belong. Let's run down what I've come up with.

  • The Edge Fitness Club - Danbury

The Edge Fitness Club in Danbury,  located at 100 Newtown Road, received the best ratings from both Yelp and Google, a 4.6 out of 5 stars. Here's what I like about 'The Edge,' bright and very clean, private showers, clean locker rooms, and friendly staff. The bottom line membership is $10/month, but you can check membership options by clicking on theedgefitnessclubs.comThe best part about 'The Edge' is they're open 24 hours a day starting at 5am on Monday until 7pm on Friday. I could get up at 3am, get to 'The Edge' by 4am, and then drive straight to the station for 'The Ethan and Lou Show.' YEAH, RIGHT!

  • CrossFit 203 - Danbury

CrossFit 203 is located at 16 Beaver Brook Road in Danbury and is what I call, a 'specialized' gym. If you're like me, just looking for a gym with cardio machines and some weights, CrossFit probably isn't for you. This is a gym that takes you to the next level of cardio and strength conditioning. To give you an idea, here are some of the CrossFit programs.

  • Planet Fitness - Danbury

Planet Fitness is located at 110 Federal Rd. in Danbury. The reviews on Yelp.com differ greatly from the reviews on Google.com. Many members join because their bare-boned membership is only $10/month. The prominent complaint about PF was the lack of free weights. The main advantages were that there were a lot of machines and the space was gargantuan. I tried, but couldn't locate a listing of when they're open.

  • Danbury War Memorial

The Danbury War Memorial Fitness Center scores a 7.6/10 from heygyms.com. As far as I can tell, a membership costs $20, although hours are limited. Reviewers write that the staff is friendly and the gym is clean.

  • Max's Best Boot Camp - Danbury

Think of Max's as the next step up from a Planet Fitness type gym when you're ready to take your workouts to the next level. Yelp reviewers gives Max's straight 5/5's across the board claiming that the results are amazing and the trainers are personable and very effective. Each training session you attend is monitored by a personal trainer. Max's is located at 5 Shelter Rock Rd., Building D, 2nd Floor.

  • Prime Time Fitness - New Fairfield

Prime Time is located at 3 Dunham Drive in New Fairfield and gets 4 out of 5 stars from Yelp reviewers. One reviewer summed it up by saying there are lots of machines, weights, dumb bells, plenty of free weights, kettle bells, all the machines are up to date and clean, plus there are no muscle heads. They also open at 5am Monday thru Friday.

  • Club 24 Concept Gyms - New Milford

You'll find Club 24 at 164 Danbury Rd. in New Milford where they open at 5am Monday thru Friday. Yelp reviewers gave it a 4.5/5 because they have a lot of cardio equipment, cleanliness, up to date exercise machines, and their reasonable membership cost. I would say that Club 24 is designed for the individual who's looking for a good cardio workout combined with some strength conditioning.
