I recently wrote about bed bugs on the Yale campus. Scary, but not nearly as truly important as this issue.

Safety first - always. That's my motto. I can't even begin to tell you how incensed I get when I see people texting, or reading texts while they are driving. Honestly, I could rant about this forever, but I'll save that for another time.

Walking while texting is just as dangerous. Even though we've seen "funny" videos of people falling into fountains or walking into light poles, it really is no laughing matter.

I was very happy to read this report in the New Haven Register. Yale University is asking students to stop texting while they walk around campus and downtown New Haven. Members of the Yale Traffic Safety Commission recently were collecting signatures of people who pledged not to text while crossing the street. The Yale Traffic Committee was formed a few years ago after the death of a student at an intersection in New Haven. Yesterday, committee members collected over 200 signatures in just three hours.

Job well done. I hope you collect more signatures, and everyone adheres to the pledge.
