There something bittersweet about this time of year. Some kids already started the school year and others are away on their final vacation of the summer before going back. When they do finally go back there are Pro's and there are Con's.

Let's examine first the Con's and do this in reverse.

Con's:

  • You will miss them (sometimes).
  • You may have to start getting them transported to and from school, practices, games etc.
  • If you are a teacher or a coach ... your workload can go way up.
  • Helping them with there homework is a nightmare.

Pro's:

  • You get the middle of your day back and whether you are at home or at work you can be productive without 1,000,000 interruptions.
  • No more swim lessons, sailing lessons, baseball games, softball games.
  • No fighting to get them ready to get to the beach....which is terrible.  This one can take hours with two or more kids.  You have to get them up in their suits, get sunscreen on them, pack their swim toys, get fresh towels, pack their lunches, pack their snacks and try and get them to not make messes while your working on all that.  Then the trip back into the house coming home from the beach is worse.  They are tired, hungry again and covered in sand and water.  It's almost worth staying in and missing the beach some days.  As you can see I have some strong feelings on this one.
  • You can clean the house and do dishes in peace and enjoy it being clean for at least a few hours before they get home.

Anyway you see what I mean.  There are a lot of pro's and con's.  What are yours?
