After years of searching for the perfect spot, the Danbury Dog Park opened on Monday with the official ribbon cutting ceremony.

Over the last few years, Danbury Common Council President, Joe Cavo, has been searching for an appropriate site for Danbury Dog owners to call their own. He told me, "We have so many Condo developments in the area, and people needed an area to let their dogs get some exercise and to interact with other dogs."

After extensive research, and some help from the Danbury Airport, the area right across from the Fed Ex building at the intersection of Backus Ave. and Miry Brook Rd. is the home of the brand new dog park for residents of Danbury, and of course, their dogs.

Mayor Mark Boughton, who spoke prior to the ribbon cutting, told the crowd of residents and their dogs that "this is the largest fenced in dog park in Western Connecticut". Dog owners who were there for the official opening were also given special treats called Mayor Mark's Munchies supplied by Stew Leonard's.

The dog park will be open from sunrise to sunset 365 days a year. Two fenced in areas make up the park. One is for small dogs 20 pounds or less, the other is for larger dogs. Doggie clean up bags and water is provided at the park.
