Unique Contests and Shows at the Bridgewater Country Fair That Will Amaze You!

Thousands of people from all over Connecticut and New York flock to the Bridgewater Country Fair for the rides, food, entertainment, and my favorite: the unique contests!

Roast beef sandwiches, barbecued chicken, corn on the cob, fried dough are all plentiful at a good ole country fair and the Bridgewater Country Fair is one of the best in the country! For the list of food available at this year's fair, click on this link. The BCF kicks off on Friday, August 18 at 4pm and includes the legendary Fireman's Parade which steps off at 6:45pm.

What really caught my eye was the list of all the unique contests and shows that will take place throughout the weekend of August 18 - August 20. Many of those events include farm animals, truck pulls, oxen pulls, baked goods, etc. Check out some of my favs.

Rabbit and Cavy Show - Here's your opportunity to give your pet rabbit or guinea pig the recognition it deserves. There are a list of rules for each show and/or contest so animal mayhem can be avoided. Rule #8 states that "There will be no breeding at the show."

Oxen Show - What a sight it is to eyeball these beautiful beefy bovines that weigh-in at between 2,000 and 4,000 pounds. For Oxen Show locations and times, click this link.

Garden Tractor Pull - This contest is opened to ages 6 through adults but all tractors must have wheelie bars to compete. A full 'pull' is 8 feet and there is no 'Jerking the Stone Boat.' I don't even know what that means. Passengers are strictly prohibited. This competition goes off at 11:30am on Sunday.

Hot Dog Pig Racing - You can't beat four pigs running around squealing trying to go for the gold! Sometimes they dress the pigs up in hot dog costumes which might just get the pig lovers all hot and bothered. The 66th Annual Bridgewater Country Fair goes from Friday, August 18 at 4pm through Sunday, August 20 until 6pm.
