Our hearts are heavy today with this tragic news from the Bethel Police Department.

I can't even surmise the turmoil someone must feel when ending your life seems the only thing to do.

With the news from Police Departments all across the country in the past many months, this is such a heart wrenching story to share. RIP Lt. Kennedy

The Bethel Police Department has released the following statement.

It is with profound sadness that the Bethel Police Department announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Lieutenant Kevin Kennedy (Ret.). LT Kennedy retired one year ago after 34 years of service to the Bethel Police Department, The Town of Bethel, and its citizens.Last night at approximately 9:00PM, Bethel Police responded to the Plumtrees Heights Condominium Complex after receiving a call from family concerning Kennedy’s welfare. Police responded and located Kennedy on the complex grounds. After a brief dialogue with the responding Bethel Officers, Kennedy shot himself using a personal firearm. Kennedy was transported to Danbury Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

This story not only gives me shivers, it makes my heart ache for the loss of a great man, respected and loved by many. My prayers go out to his family and friends, as well as the entire Bethel Police Department during this time.
