September 29th, 1972, Elton John rocked the New Haven Arena.

The early 1970's Elton tours were very stripped down.  In fact the 1972 tour was the first time they even featured a guitarist on tour, as Davey Johnstone was added on guitar. Prior to that, Elton, Dee Murray and Nigel Olsson toured as a piano/ bass/ drums trio.

The New Haven Arena was torn down in 1974, but over the years had hosted a ton of great shows including the Stones, Kinks and Dylan, and most notably was the place where Jim Morrison was arrested onstage during a Doors performance.

The video above gives you a peek at what Elton's 1972 tour sounded like, with classic performances of "Honky Cat," "Rocket Man" and "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters."
