Candlewood Lake needs some serious help!

New Fairfield Selectman, Susan Chapman and U.S. Representative, Elizabeth Etsy recently got together to discuss a strategy on how to approach the federal government to help fund research on how to deal with blue-green algae and other water quality issues that plague Candlewood Lake.

Representative Etsy told the NewsTimes,

We want to be the incubator for this at Candlewood Lake.

If they're able to secure that funding, they could apply the knowledge they've learned to help other lakes in the state. The blue-green algae has been the culprit that has forced the closings of area beaches on the lake, not to mention how toxic the algae is to humans and animals because of the high level of toxins. This nasty stuff can irritate the respiratory tract, and if swallowed, can cause diarrhea and vomiting.

A panel discussion has been scheduled for 1pm on September 13 at Danbury City Hall which will include leaders from all towns that surround the lake so they can begin working on this plan together. Once Congress is back in session, Etsy along with Senator Richard Blumenthal will meet with the Department of the Interior, the EPP, and the Department of Energy and begin the process of securing the funds needed to help out Candlewood Lake.

New Fairfield Selectman, Susan Chapman told the NewsTimes,

The water quality issue at Candlewood Lake is a priority, not just for my town, but for all of the surrounding towns.
