In case you've decided to bag the turkey for Thanksgiving and go for pizza and beer instead, here are seven of the best 'specialty' pizzerias.

    STANZIATO'S - Danbury

Stanziato's, at 35 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury, as far as I'm concerned, is northern Fairfield county's best pizza destination. Yelp and Google reviewers rate Stanziato's a well deserved 4.5/5. My favs are the Duck Hunt and the Totes McGoats pizza. Where in the wonderful world of pizza are you going to find smoked duck breast on a pizza? It's brilliant. If you love goat cheese like I do, order up a Totes McGoats with mozzarella, goat cheese, spinach, and a squeeze of lemon. Go there, eat pizza, and have a food orgasm!

    PIZZERIA BELLO - Brookfield

Pizzeria Bello is located at 317 Federal Rd. in Brookfield and according to Yelp and Google reviewers, which gave the pizzeria a 4.6/5, this is not only one of the best pizzerias in the area, but is also one of the best restaurants for all-around delicious Italian food. The garlic knots are to die for! My two favorite 'specialty' pizzas are the the Broccoli Rabe & Sausage and the Clams Casino.

SOHO PIZZA - Danbury and Newtown

Soho Pizza is right across the street from WCSU at 164 White St. This is a great go-to pizzeria for a slice or, what I sometimes call, an advanced pizza. My favs are the White Pizza with ricotta, mozzarella, fresh basil and oregano drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and their Grandma Pizza. Soho's other location is in Newtown at 123 S Main Street.

    TUSCANERO'S PIZZA - Danbury

Tuscanero's is located at 113 Mill Plain Rd. Danbury, right off exit 2 of I-84 near Trader Shoes and Starbucks. Native New Yorkers rave about this pizzeria because of their thin crisp crust. Some of the Yelp reviewer's favs are the Ziti and the Buffalo Chicken pies.

    AUGIE'S NUMERO #1 RESTAURANT & PIZZA - Danbury

You'll find Augie's at 30 Germantown Road in Danbury. On a Friday or Saturday evening this place is packed! Augie's is one of Lou and Erica's favorite restaurants because of their large portions. Mindy and I have actually shared an entree and still had leftovers to bring home! Try their Seafood and White specialty pies. If you're eating at Augie's, keep in mind they are now a BYOB restaurant. The portions are huge, the sauces are all homemade, and the prices are reasonable. Mmmmmmmm!

    PIZZERIA MAZZO - Danbury

Pizzeria Mazzo took over the location where the Old Sorrento Restaurant used to stand at 32 Newtown Rd. in Danbury. Not only is Mazzo's a pizzeria but it's also an Italian fine dining restaurant. If you're looking for 'can't miss' specialty pizzas for Thanksgiving dinner, I recommend their Vodka Sauce Pie and the Filet Mignon Pie which is a white pie with marinated filet mignon sprinkled with truffle oil. Delizioso!

NICO'S PIZZA AND PASTA - Danbury

Nico's can be found at 175 Main St. in the heart of  downtown Danbury. Their specialty pies include Sausage & Broccoli Rabe, and the Seafood Pie with shrimp, scallops, calamari, and clams. Nico's is one of the most reasonably priced restaurants in the area and if you're eating in, you're guaranteed leftovers!
