Warmer weather is on the way, I promise. So, we’ll be spending more time outside soon. One of the fun things to do in the summer is to watch movies outdoors.

Our town usually has one of those big blowup movie screens that they put on the green, and that’s a fun family activity for us. But what’s even more fun are the drive-in theaters that are still around. One of them is a quick drive up I-84 to Southington, CT.

The Southington Drive-In has released their 2016 summer line-up for movies:

  • June 4: Grease
  • June 11: Frozen
  • June 18: Jaws
  • June 25: Minions
  • July 2: Jurassic World
  • July 9: Kung Fu Panda 3
  • July 16: AVATAR
  • July 23: Aladdin
  • July 30: Home Alone
  • August 6: Inside Out
  • August 13: Ghostbusters
  • August 20: Big Hero 6
  • August 27: Zootopia
  • September 3: Star Wars The Force Awakens

What is cool about the Southington Drive-In is that the town of Southington actually owns the venue. For more history about the drive-in you can check out their website.

Some important information to know:

  • Gates Open at 6 p.m.
  • Movies Start at Sunset
  • Cost
    • Southington Residents: $10 a carload
    • Non-Residents: $15 a carload
    • Walk-Ins: $2 a person (bring lawn chairs)

  • There are food vendors at the drive-in

It’s nice that they have a good mix of family movies and movies that adults can use for a date night. I can see my family spending many a Saturday night at this drive-in. Plus, who wouldn’t want to see the Ghostbusters on the big screen? I know I do!

Which of the movies do you want to see?
