According to onlyinyourstate.com., the Taconic State Parkway is considered the deadliest road in the state of New York.

Odds are you've driven the Taconic Pkwy. In the fall, it's one of the most beautiful scenic highways in the state. I've driven the Taconic many times from the entrance off I-84 West all the way to the very last exit and I've seen my share of idiots behind the wheel. The speed limit is set at 55mph for a reason.  Some of the reasons why it is one of the deadliest highways is because there is very little room for error. The road is narrow and the shoulders are tiny. Some moronic drivers treat it like their driving at Limerock Park.

My advice, DO NOT DRIVE THE TACONIC AT NIGHT! There's nothing to see except an animal that might dart out in front of your car and by then it's too late. There's nowhere your car can go except into a railing or bridge abutment. The following are the explicit reasons why the Taconic State Parkway is the deadliest road in NYS.

1. For the 3 years ending in July of 2014, 2,080 crashes happened on the parkway especially in Putnam and Westchester counties.

2. Over the last seven years, state troopers have given out 54,000 tickets!

3. No breakdown lanes, frequent animal crossings, concrete dividers, and woods.

From a guy who's had many experiences driving the Taconic, here's my advice. I understand that driving 55mph is brutal, but if you want to stay alive while driving the Taconic, drive no faster than 60mph max. Don't drive the parkway after dark. Don't tailgate. Don't drive the Taconic unless you're an experienced driver.
