Go fetch your ba-ba and blanky and let me tell you the story of "The Curse of the Taconic State Parkway.'"

Do you believe in ghosts, spells, and curses? If you Google the Taconic State Parkway, you'll find an article from the Yorktown Daily Voice from January 15, 2017, naming the Taconic as one of the deadliest spots in New York State.

Just recently, a man was pulled over during a traffic stop on the Taconic in Mt. Pleasant and was charged with driving while intoxicated for the THIRD time. Is there some sort of hobgoblin controlling the Taconic? Has a spell or curse been cast on the parkway by the Wicked Witch of the West? It sure seems that way.

Since the year 2014, this 104 mile-long-highway has seen 2,080 crashes and State Troopers have issued 55,000 tickets. The fact is that the Taconic Parkway was designed as a 104 mile stretch of scenic highway but was NOT designed for cars built for speed in the 21st century.

In 2009 at 1:30 pm on Sunday, July 29 a minivan driven by 36-year-old Diane Schuler drove 1.7 miles in the wrong direction on the parkway and crashed head-on into an SUV. Eight people died in that horrific accident.

Why are there so many accidents on the Taconic State Parkway? It's because many drivers don't pay attention to the speed limit coupled with the fact that much of the highway is narrow and contains bends and curves. I've said it many times before inside other blogs I've written about the Taconic but it's worth saying again. If you can help it, DO NOT DRIVE THIS PARKWAY WHEN IT GETS DARK. That is when this road turns into a death trap!
