From fires in the home to the time honored Butterball Hotline, there's lots of news heading into Thanksgiving.

Butterball has a new feature this year and it launches today. Now when you get cooking, the National Fire Protection Association wants you to stay safe in the kitchen.

Let's start with the Butterball news. The Butterball Hotline has been helping you through that Thanksgiving meal for 35 years now. The company has embraced something new for 2016. Starting Nov. 17 and running through Nov. 24 you can now get text tech support. Just text 844 - 877 - 3456 from now through the 24th for 24 hour answers to your pressing questions.

Of course the Butterball Hotline is still available via email, social media and the ever popular phone number, 1 - 800 - BUTTERBALL 1 - 800 - 288 - 8372

One thing they can't do is put out the fire you may start cooking that meal if you're not careful. Turns out, according to the most recent data from the U.S. Fire Administration, from 2011 to 2013, an estimated 2,100 residential building fires were reported to fire departments in the U.S. on Thanksgiving Day. Out of that total, 1,550 were cooking fires.

The National Fire Protection Association says it's no surprise that Thanksgiving day is the worst for fires since more people are in the kitchen, and a whole lot of them are inexperienced cooks making their first Thanksgiving Day dinner. Plus there is way more distractions of family and friends hanging around the kitchen on turkey day.

The report says that Thanksgiving Day fires in residential buildings occurred most frequently from noon to 3 p.m., when many people most likely were preparing Thanksgiving dinner. Fires tapered off throughout the night.

Thanksgiving is certainly the time for tradition. In keeping with tradition, i95 once again rocks you with Arlo Guthrie's classic "Alice's Restaurant" on Nov. 24 at 8 a.m., noon, and 5 p.m. Just make sure you pay attention to what's cooking.
