The anniversary of 9/11 is an uncomfortable day for those of us who were alive and old enough to remember it. It's important to talk about that day, because we saw the worst and best of what it means to be a human being.

We can't forget that our freedom makes us a target of people who have become consumed by evil. We can't forget that we are capable of great acts of kindness and compassion when faced with evil.

This morning on the Ethan and Lou show, we did what we do every year in remembrance, we talk about what we experienced that day. It's always awkward to express feelings about an event of this scale. After 17 years, I still have a hard time processing the volume of the innocent lives that were lost.

As you will hear this kind of genuine, emotional expression is awkward for Ethan and I. It's not a normal part of what we do. We are awkward and uncomfortable speaking about it and I think this is OK.
