Almost every religion on the planet in some way, shape, or form has their own version of the underworld where souls are banished for infinity.

According to the website atlasobscura.com, there are 11 purported entrances to the netherworld in certain locations all over the world like 'Fengdu City of Ghosts' in Chongqing, China, 'Pluto's Gate' in Turkey, 'St. Patrick's Purgatory' in Ireland, and 'The Gates of Guinee' in New Orleans, Louisiana. I got to wondering if there might be some other 'Portals to Hell' in the state of Connecticut. In honor of Halloween 2016, here are my nominations.

    Arrigoni Bridge - Middletown

At over 90 feet high, for some reason the Arrigoni Bridge seems to have some kind of creepy draw to individuals who are contemplating suicide. According to the Mayor of Middletown, Daniel Drew, he knows that many have attempted suicide by jumping, but isn't aware how many have been successful. In July of 2015, 21 year old Tony Romeno threw his child into the Connecticut River and then proceeded to follow him in. The child died but Romeno survived. Now your talking about a true hell on earth. Could the Arrigoni Bridge be a portal to the netherworld perhaps?

    Bridgeport Correctional Center - Bridgeport

I personally knew an individual who, during his time of acting like an idiot, earned himself a week at this jail and said he never wants to do it again. Whether it's a penitentiary, jail, prison, or whatever you choose to call it, you will hear it described by most inmates as 'hell on earth.' This particular individual had his shoes stolen and his head shaved against his will, plus, there was a door he told me about that everyone avoided but no one would tell him why.

The Warren's Occult Museum - Monroe

WOW, if this isn't a pathway to Hades I don't know what is! Ed and Lorraine Warren are paranormal investigators and demonologists and have been associated with hundreds of cases involving demonic possession, ghosts, and paranormal activity. Is any of their stories, books, and movies true? Skeptics call them frauds but I believe if you take the tour of their 'Occult Museum' in Monroe, you might be able to find out, if in fact, there is the possibility their home in Monroe, CT is one of the portals to hell! Go ahead, I dare ya!

    Charles Island - Milford

Charles Island in Milford has historic ties to the Native Americans and you don't want to mess with the Native Americans. According to damnedct.com, The Paugussett Tribe believed the island was a sacred home to the spirits, and once they lost the island to European settlers, they put a curse on any other structures that were built on the island and anyone who tried to live there. Visitors to the island in modern times have claimed they've heard disembodied voices and have seen glowing ghosts and creepy phantom figures. Either these folks have had too many shots of Yager, or they set foot on ANOTHER PORTAL TO HELL!

    Any Teenager's Bedroom - Danbury

Only parents who have had teenagers growing up in their homes know this to be true. It doesn't matter if it's a girl or boy, you're liable to find 'Insane Clown Posse' posters, empty cans of Pringles, stinky clothing that hasn't seen a washing machine in months, dirty dishes from weeks ago, apple cores, pizza crusts, you get the point! My guess is if you dare to open their closet, that is where you will find ANOTHER PORTAL TO THE UNDERWORLD!
