I did feel like a little kid again, no spoilers!

I woke up early on Christmas morning, but I didn't run to the Christmas tree and tear open wrapped gifts. My gift was a pair of tickets to the 9AM showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in IMAX 3-D! We went to the AMC Loews Plainville, CT theaters, a very nice facility, to catch the flick. There were probably about 20-30 cars in the parking lot, so we weren't the only empty-nesters in Connecticut. We got our popcorn and soda, and our 3-D glasses, and settled in.

I'm in my mid-40's, and the original Star Wars movies dominated my childhood. From the opening strains of John William's beautiful orchestra to the iconic line "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away", I was transported back to my youth. The Force Awakens picks up about 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and I'm sure you've seen by now that some of the original cast members show up in this new film. This is Harrison Ford's movie. He's excellent reprising Han Solo.

JJ Abrams remains faithful to George Lucas's vision, with funny nods to the past films. This is kind of a reinvention and retelling of the first film, the same sequence of events happens in this new film, but movie editing has come a long way since 1976. Whip-fast cuts and thrilling battle sequences abound. Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill's appearances elicited nice reactions from the crowd, as do C3PO and R2-D2. All in all, it's a thrilling, well-made film that will absolutely draw in a whole new generation of younger fans, and a few old grizzled veterans like me. Go see it, it's worth the money.
