When I reached the ripe old age off 11, my metabolism came to a screeching halt. And so began my struggle with food.

As each year blended into the next, I became one of the "fat kids." Through middle and high school, I would buy "double lunches" and usually "treat" myself to two "Big Macs" with a ginormous order of fries.

I blame no one for my food issues. It's all on me, but it still sucks!

When I met Mindy in 1973, to be honest, we were both chubsters. We decided to get married on May 30, 1976 and as the year began, we made the decision to shed some pounds.

To help us with our weight loss goal, we purchased a book written by a doctor who had tried just about everything to lose weight, so he wrote the "The San Francisco Weight Loss Diet." In the introductory pages, he guaranteed you would lose weight if you followed his instructions to the tee. He even described, in detail, about how you would feel from week to week both mentally and physically.

In a six month time period, I went from 260 to 210 pounds and Mindy went from 160 to 125.

What's the magic weight loss formula we discovered? There is NO magic formula. This book was all about eating healthier food and exercising.

Whoa!!!! Imagine that!

The difference was that each day the author gave specific instructions on what to eat and how much, along with an exercise plan, which was a choice between walking or cycling.

With my 63rd birthday approaching in February, at 5' 11"  I weigh in at 260 pounds. This is not good. My cholesterol is high and so is my blood pressure, but I attribute that to Lou!

As this new year begins, I've found the catalyst to help me jump start my path to a healthier lifestyle and the photos below say it all.
