Who doesn't love pie?! Eating lots of pie could help fight a rare genetic disorder.

On Sunday, August 27, Leo's Restaurant of Southbury will host their 3rd Annual Pie Eating Contest to raise awareness and to raise money for the Children's Tumor Foundation. This amazing organization's goal is to support and fund research to battle the rare genetic disorder, neurofibromatosis which causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body.

Three years ago, the owners of Leo's Restaurant, Bob and Michelle Moniz were inspired to host this event when they made the decision to support 1 year-old, Alex Owens, who lived with neurofibromatosis. Alex is now 4 and is battling tumors that grew on his brain and back. All of the money raised for this event goes toward funding research to fight NF so kids like Alex can have a fighting chance.

Over the last three years, owner Bob Moniz wakes up bright and early and personally bakes all the pies for the contest. Last year $3,000 was raised to help the cause and your invited to come out and watch the fun this coming Sunday, August 27.
