As the latest comic book movie “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” is cleaning up at the box office and more mega blockbuster superhero movies are set to hit the big screen this summer, I started thinking about which superhero I share the most in common with and it hit me: There’s actually a superhero in all of us. We just have to look a little closer.

So which one are you?

"The Sensational Spider-Man" Comic Book: November 1986
Here's an original Spider-Man comic book I still have. This one is from November of 1986. I paid 75 cents for it. / Eric's Camera

I can't remember exactly but I think my first superhero experience was as a kid going to see the Christopher Reeve “Superman” movie in the 70s with my Dad and brothers. I definitely remember watching “The Incredible Hulk” television show around the same time.

Then one day I was in a toy store with my Mom and standing right at the top of a spinning rack filled with images of The Hulk, Captain America, The X-Men and Batman was a comic book called “The Amazing Spider-Man”. Something struck a chord with me immediately. I had to check it out.

I didn’t realize it at the time but looking back on it all these years later I now see why I connected so much with the webbed wonder. Peter Parker was a lanky, awkward, kinda shy kid. That was most definitely me.

As I hit my teen years I became even more of the Peter Parker-type. I joined the school newspaper and always seemed to have a crush on "the girl next door" only I couldn’t get up the nerve to talk to her.

If only I could have been bitten by a radioactive spider.

Now it's your turn. Which superhero do you connect with most? I’m going to use ten of the most famous comic book superheroes as examples and you’re challenge is to determine which one best describes you.

  • BATMAN

He is an introvert by nature who likes to hang low (or high) until he is called upon by those in trouble. Trying to get behind the mask and know the real Batman aka Bruce Wayne is not so easy. Many have tried, few have succeeded. He has a close circle of friends he trusts in to keep his most personal secrets.

  • CAPTAIN AMERICA

A very old-fashioned kinda guy this Captain America. He is also devoted to the higher cause even if it means putting his life on the line to protect the people and country he loves.

  • THE HULK

A highly intelligent, well-mannered guy who has, you could say, a bit of a temper. This temper can get the best of him and put him in some bad situations. At his core, however, there is a good guy who has the best intentions. He just needs the right person to help him keep his cool.

  • INVISIBLE WOMAN

Her primary strength is the ability to react and disappear quickly in times of danger for not just herself but for family and friends. Invisible Woman a.k.a. Sue Storm Richards plays a strong role in the everyday lives of her brother Johnny Storm, her husband Reed Richards, her close friend Ben Grimm, and her children Franklin and Valeria.

  • IRON MAN

Tony Stark is smart and charming and he's also the first one to tell you that. If you called on him for help, however, he’s there every time. You just might have to hear him brag about it later.

  • SPIDER-MAN

Without the mask he’s just a shy, awkward guy searching for his place in the world. Tap into his strengths, however, and you'll find he’s creative (he did create his own costume after all), funny, charming and, despite his small size, can take on any villain.

  • SUPERMAN

One minute he’s the quiet, shy, awkward character who asks permission before speaking. The next minute he’s the strong, self-less leader willing to travel to the ends of the Earth to do what’s right and just. Unfortunately Superman has his bad days thanks to Kryptonite. So what, or who, is your Kryptonite?

  • THOR

You ever hang out with someone who has what’s called an old soul? This is Thor. There isn’t anyone else you would want in your corner either. When it comes to strength both inside and out, this is the guy.

  • WOLVERINE

Don’t call this person a superhero it may not go over well. Wolverine is more of a vigilante operating on his own terms and no one seems to really know him. He has a keen sense of his surroundings and is thick skinned. Wolverine will bleed, yes, but he heals almost as quickly as you cut him.

  • WONDER WOMAN

On the outside Wonder Woman is a thing of beauty, like a rare jewel. She is also fiercely independent and strong. A true warrior princess. She also has an amazing ability to get the truth out of anyone who gets close enough. Beware.
